Operation Underdog, Inc

Operation Underdog at a Glance…

Operation Underdog was formed to assist the Humane Society of Raleigh County in Beckley, WV with rescue efforts. These efforts included promoting animals to the general public and rescue organizations, the transporting of dogs and cats out of the shelter to foster based rescue groups, the recruitment of local foster homes for dogs awaiting transport, and fundraising such as Pennies for Paws, Howl-o-ween, Santa Paws, etc.

Due to success in the shelter’s rescue and adoption rates (thanks to our rescue efforts, a committed staff and volunteers), Operation Underdog had the opportunity to expand services to include a monthly trip to a low cost spay and neuter clinic the Charleston, WV area.  This trip is offered at no charge to the community other than the cost of the procedure. On average, we transport 300 animals each year to the clinic to help decrease the number of unwanted litters in our area.

Operation Underdog  continues to provide free transport twice each month of dogs and cats from numerous counties in West Virginia to partner rescues groups in neighboring states. These animals include former shelter residents as well as community pets in need of placement due to stray status or the inability of their previous owners to provide care.

We are proud to partner with Greenbrier Academy for Girls to create Underdog Academy, a temporary foster placement within a private, all girls boarding school. The dogs placed here will be part of a therapeutic dog program. This program aims to be of mutual benefit to both humane and canine participants.

Finally, we have animals available for adoption. Many of these animals were pulled from local kill shelters when their time was up, rescued from lives of neglect as strays, or were taken into our care to prevent them from entering local shelters. Our adoption process includes an application, a home visit, and a contract. All underdogs are up to date with vaccinations, micro chipped, heartworm tested, and spayed or neutered. We occasionally have undercats available for adoption as well! We are a volunteer based, 501c3 nonprofit organization. All of our animals live in foster care with loving families as we search for their forever homes.
